“Fellowship - Yoking or Discipling?”

November 29th, 2008 by rlm

Sermon: “Fellowship - Yoking or Discipling? - 30th November 2008

1 John 1:7But if we walk in the light (Jesus), as he is in the light, we have fellowship (a must) with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

o        Children of God are blessed with the wonderful gift of FELLOWSHIP. Real fellowship is BEAUTIFUL, fun and enriching. But is real fellowship a time to yoke or a time to disciple each other?

o        Matthew 11:28-30…

1.        (Matthew 11:28) Jesus is calling who are tired and burdened to go to Him and He will give us rest.

§          The kind of rest that is real, powerful & everlasting.

§          The kind of rest that no one (not our spouse / family / friends / yourself) and nothing (not money / holiday / etc) else can give.

2.        (Matthew 11:29)The way we receive this rest is to be yoked with Jesus (become one) & learn from Him. What does it mean to be yoked? When a pair of oxen is yoked together - the smaller ox sees what the bigger ox does and follows. If the bigger ox turns left, the smaller ox turns left. If the bigger ox stops, the smaller ox stops. When the bigger ox starts moving again, the smaller ox follows.

3.        (Matthew 11:30)To yoke with Jesus is to follow His leading (which is to flow with Jesus). Jesus says it is easy to flow with Him — and even His burden is light (He will not lay anything heavy on us).

A.       When we choose to yoke with Jesus (becoming one with Him)  by LEARNING from Jesus & Jesus alone everyday

B.       We will supernaturally naturally enter into His easy flow / leading

C.       When we flow with Jesus, we will find that the things of our lives will supernaturally naturally fall into places wonderfully.

o        John 15:5… Real Christians who yoke themselves with Jesus & Jesus alone will SURELY bear much fruit and ESPECIALLY bearing the most important fruit WHICH is making disciples.

o         Matthew 28:16-20… The Great Commission in the END OF THE BOOK OF MATTHEW was the last and most important instruction given by Jesus to us before He left the earth. This is the FRUIT that every true child of God WILL supernaturally naturally bears when they yoke with Jesus!

o        Matthew 28:20… To disciple someone is to teach the people every truth about Jesus and to guide them into believing those truths.

o        2 Corinthians 6:14… But instead of discipling the non-believers and the baby Christians that Jesus put into our lives – many Christians are foolishly yoking themselves with those non-believers and the baby Christians. To yoke with another human being is to become one with them. There is a MAJOR difference between Discipling (teaching / reaching out / befriending / etc) and Yoking (becoming one emotionally / sexually / financially / etc).

o        Acts 2:42… Children of God ARE blessed with the wonderful gift of FELLOWSHIP. Real fellowship is BEAUTIFUL, fun and enriching. Biblical Fellowship consists of ;

1.        Teaching of  Jesus and Jesus alone (discipling)

2.        Breaking of bread (Holy Communion)

3.       Prayer

“The world rejects – Jesus chooses”

October 25th, 2008 by rlm

Sermon – “The world rejects – Jesus chooses

                                                      (26th October 2008)

Matthew 22:14 “For many are invited (called), but few are chosen.”

  • The bible is clear that God loves each and every one of us – NO ONE is left out. Yet it also says that among all of us whom God so love - many are invited but only few chosen.
  1. When we are invited – we have the option to accept or reject the invitation. An invitation from God - is as though Jesus comes to you with an invitation card.
  2. But when we are chosen – like it or not – we BECOME the CHOSEN ONE – it’s no longer an option. When you chosen – no invitation card is given. Jesus comes to you – and says “Come Follow Me”. And according to the word of God – this happens to a FEW.
  •
  • 1 Corinthians 1:27…Just as the world have its choice – so does God. Who does Jesus chooses?
  1. The World chooses, glorifies and accepts people whom the world considers wise, strong, rich, pious and etc.
  2. And the World rejects people whom the world considers foolish, weak, poor, unholy and etc.
  3. YET Jesus chooses people whom the world calls foolish, weak, poor, unholy and etc. The Bible tells us that Jesus finds joy in choosing and using the people whom the world considers foolish, weak, poor, unholy and etc.
  •
  • Some of God’s Chosen Servants…
  1.  Exodus 4:2 … A murderer and a Fugitive was chosen. With nothing but his staff (stick), God chose Moses to perform miracles, confront the mighty Pharaoh and set God’s people free!
  2. John 6:9 A little boy was chosen among the thousands of adults.  With his five loaves and two fish – this little boy’s lunch was chosen by Jesus to feed 5,000 men. Plus Jesus’ disciples gathered 12 baskets full of balance after that.
  3. Joshua 6:25A prostitute was chosen of all people. Of all the people in the land, God chose Rahab the prostitute to save the Israelites.  Rahab became part of God’s people.
  4. 1 Samuel 17:50 A Shepherd boy was chosen instead of the mighty warriors. David the shepherd boy, his sling and stone - brought down Goliath, the mighty Philistine champion. David became King.
  5. Acts 9:1-2…A murderer of Christians was chosen. Paul was the greatest disciple of Jesus of the New Testament. He even wrote most of the New Testament.
  •
  • When we are chosen…
  1. Acts 9:15-17…Like Paul - it can be painful.
  2. Jonah 1:3Like Jonah - we should not run away. Until His mission is accomplished through us – we will never find rest.
  3. Like Paul and Jonah – we can clearly see that God knows what He is doing. Jesus sees the end results of the mission that He has chosen for us to accomplished. Jesus can be trusted.
  •
  • Today the world may reject you and even call you foolish or weak or poor or unholy or good for nothing or uneducated. It is OK! You just need to believe that your Jesus does not say or feel that way towards you. You need to believe that your Jesus chooses the foolish things of the world to shame the wise. Your Jesus chooses the weak things of the world to shame the strong.
  •
  • As children of God – we should not despise those whom the world labels as weak and insignificant. Jesus can use them to bring down the so-called giants of this world!

You Have It!

September 17th, 2008 by rlm

Sermon – “I Have It” (14th September 2008)

Proverbs 10:22 … The blessing of the LORD brings wealth and he adds no trouble to it.

·         The bible tells us that the Children of God is blessed. And if we are blessed it means – godly wealth (wealth without trouble) must enter our lives. But yet – when we look around (maybe even in our own lives)… we will find many Children of God – who are living lives without godly wealth. Why?

·

·          Matthew 25:29… Jesus said those who have - more will be given. And those who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. Notice that Jesus doesn’t go on to say what we have. He simply says, “But to everyone who has.”

·

·         Hebrews 11:1… So the question is – “Have what?” Jesus is talking about the courage that the Children of God needs to have to say, “I have it!” – That is FAITH.

·

·         Romans 8:32… The bible tells us that God had already freely given us all things 2000 years ago. So only if we say – “I have it”, it means we have it, and more will be given to us. But if we say – “I don’t have it” (when we actually do because all things have already been given to us) then, even what we have currently - will be taken away.

·

·         John 10:10… I personally - have seen with my own eyes - those who have little, even that little that they had - was taken away.  Who takes away the good things from our lives? The one who takes away the good things from us is not God - but Satan!

·

·         2 Corinthians 5:7… Satan will take away the good things in our lives if we say “I don’t have it” when we actually have it because of what Jesus has done. When we pray for something, we must never say that we don’t have it. Instead – we need to thank God for the things that we need and say “I have it”. Satan does not want us to know that truth the Children of God HAS IT!

·

·         Mark 11:24… When we need something, Jesus says that we are to ask of Him. And when we ask, we got to believe that we have received it. We must say that we already have it even if we don’t see it in the physical realm yet, and one day, you will see it!

·

·         Romans 4:17… Jesus is not asking us to pretend that we see it. Jesus is telling us to call those things that don’t exist - as though they do. If we believe that it is ours, we will have it. We will see ourselves having it and enjoying it, and more will be given. But if we say, “Well, I don’t feel it and I’m not sure if it will come,” we are actually saying that we don’t have it when we actually have it. Then, even what we have will be taken away. So the children of God must say “I have it”!

Child and Servant

September 8th, 2008 by rlm

Sermon - Child and Servant

7th Sept 2008

  • In the eyes of God – the human-race is divided into 3 groups – which category do we fall into?
  •
    1. Mark 10:6… God’s Creation - the human race was created by God – (Ancestors of Adam and Eve)
    2. Deuteronomy 29:12-13… God’s People through the Old Covenant  (Ancestors of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob)
    3. John 1:12…God’s Children – through the New Covenant                     (Ancestors of Jesus)
  • Jesus came to do many great and mighty things for the human-race. One of the major things Jesus came to do was to make us Children of God.
  •
  • Luke 15:29-31… In the story of the prodigal son – the rich man had two sons. The younger son chose to be just a son to his father WHILE the older son chose to be a son and a servant to his father. To the Child and Servant of God – Jesus promises that…
  •
    1. We are always with God
    2. Everything that belongs to God is ours
  • Luke 10:42… The bible tells us about two of Jesus closest friends – the sisters: Mary and Martha.

Mary

Martha

Did the BETTER thing

Did the GOOD thing

Being a CHILD of God

Being a SERVANT of God

From this scenario – we can see that – as Christians we have TWO major callings…

1.      Doing the better thing FIRST – which Mary did – being a child of God

2.      And then SUPERNATURALLY NATURALLY becoming like Martha – being a servant of God.

  • Hebrews 9:14… Every child of God – need to joyfully wait and look forward to mature into servant hood.
  •
  • 1Peter 4:10… Every true servant of Jesus will supernaturally naturally serve Jesus with the gifts that Jesus has given us. The way to serve God is to use our gifts (time, talent and treasures) to bring God’s grace into the lives of others around us.
  •
  • Matthew 25:23-28 … It is clear that the time, talent and treasures that Jesus put into our lives are for us to serve Him. Many are enjoying being a child of God but not believing the truth that we are also called to be servants of God!
  •
  • Luke 16:13… We can’t to be God’s servant – if we are serving God PLUS ourselves / someone else / something else. Whenever we call Jesus “LORD” - we are calling ourselves Servant… Jesus is our Father and our Lord (Not just our Father)

Sermon “Nothing is wrong with you
anymore”

24/8/08

2 Samuel
22:31
"As for God,
his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in
him.

· In general – every Christian believes that God and His Word are perfect. In other
words – we have no problem believing that there is nothing is wrong with God
and there’s nothing is wrong with God’s Words.

·

· BUT sadly – many Christians have not come to the
place to in believing that there is also
nothing wrong with the child of God
– which includes EVERY ONE who is in
Christ!

·

· Hebrews
10:14
When some Christians do not receive their blessing or healing or breakthrough or
restoration or the miracle child they desire, they can’t help but believe the lies of Satan that says -
something is wrong with them. Many Christians will say,
“Nothing is wrong with Jesus, nothing
is wrong with the God’s Word, so there must be something wrong
with me
and that is why I am not bless!”

·

· John 8:42-45…Satan is the father of lies!
He is real and is striving to stop people from believing every truth about
Jesus.

·

· Romans 5:17 & Psalm 5:12… The
bible clearly says that only through
Jesus – we become righteous
. And we
are blessed simply because Jesus has made us righteous.
Any Christian who
believe that one is blessed because of ones own goodness – they got it wrong!

·

· Hebrews 8:6-7… In the old covenant, God blesses His people only
if they played their part by obeying all of His laws.
If they didn’t do their part, not only
would they not be blessed, the curse would come on them. Most of the time, they
ended up under the curse because they just could not keep all of God’s laws. So
God found fault with that covenant because
though He wanted to bless the
human race.

·

· Luke 22:20In the new covenant, the human
race can do nothing except to
believe and receive. The new covenant of
grace was cut between God
in
the person of
the Father and God in the person
of Jesus
— both perfect
and
are more than able to
keep the covenant.

·

· God in
the person of Jesus is our
representative
in the new covenant. Jesus represents us. In the new covenant, how much we can receive from God depends on how good our representative
is
. Jesus is the perfect
Man w
ith perfect obedience. So in Jesus,
we are qualified to receive all the blessings of God! We only need to believe
and receive.

·

· 2
Corinthians 5:21
Jesus’
blood
has been shed for the cleansing of all your sins. We are now the righteousness of God
in Christ. By His one perfect
sacrifice for all our sins, He has perfected us
forever.

·

· Today, Satan
has no right
s to tell us that
we cannot be blessed because there
is something wrong with us. So as we are waiting for our miracle, we can say, “Nothing’s wrong with God,
nothing’s wrong with the Word and nothing’s wrong with me!”

Deuteronomy 28:6… You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.

· The
original meaning of “You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you
go out
refers to being blessed in ones DAILY
life
- in or outside of ones home
.

·

· Hebrews 13:8 Many Christian believe that Jesus is the God of their
yesterdays and the God of their tomorrows. But very few look to Jesus as the God
of their COMPLETE Life
which is… yesterday, TODAY and tomorrow.

·

· Hebrews 4:16Many are
praising Jesus for what He had done in the past. Many are believing in Jesus
for a good future. But very few run to
Jesus when they need Him now and today!
But the bible clearly says – Jesus
is the same … yesterday, today and forevermore!

·

· 2 Thessalonians
2:16…
Very few children of God
believe that Jesus is right there with them. In time of need – many run to
others or even to themselves instead of running
to the most loving, most powerful and most available One

o It is very easy to
believe that Jesus is our God of our yesterdays – because we can look back and
remember what Jesus had already done in our lives.

o It is also easy to
believe that Jesus is our God of tomorrow – because tomorrow has not come yet.

o But it is harder to
believe that Jesus is our God of NOW and today. Jesus is present with us -
right NOW and today - to bless us, to comfort us, to accompany us, to hear us
and to be God that we claim Him to be. Jesus wants to bless us TODAY.

· Lamentations
3:23…
As children of God we can be
blessed in
our
daily
lives. We will
experience God’s blessings and God’s presence – if we know, believe and mediate
on this truth! Today we are BLESSED! The
moment we wake up – we should thank Jesus for a blessed day
– not
because we are good but because Jesus is good and His faithfulness are new
every morning!

·

· Psalm 118:24…Because God’s Word says that
this is the day that HE has made and we can rejoice and be glad in it;
so it means we can confidently believe that every morning, when you get
up
,
we are getting up to a day that the Jesus has made for, and because HE had made our
day – we can rejoice and be glad
in it.

·

· Psalm 68:19… We are blessed every day and
God’s word says that our God daily bears
our burdens
.
At
night, when it is time to sleep,
we must
continue to believe that we will be blessed when we
get up in the morning
because there will be
another load of
blessings waiting for us from
our heavenly Father who loves you so much!

·

· Exodus 16:4… God promised the Israelites that He will be with them each
day - to provide their needs – He wanted to see if His people trusted Him.
Today Jesus is saying the same thing to us. Jesus is saying that He is
promising to take care of us DAILY. Jesus
is waiting to see if we trust Him
or do we trust ourselves or someone else
or something else in the new day that He gives us every morning!
