Sermon “For your good”

Sermon “For your good”

22/6/08

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  • Sin…

    1. Destroys us and leads us to death.

    2. Is sin – no big or small sin! Every sin put Jesus on the cross. People tend to magnify certain sins.

    3. Disable us from becoming the individual God created us to be.

  • What does it mean to be born again – so to have eternal life…?

    1. Romans 3:23… Believing that you are a sinner – like everyone else

    2. 1 John 1:9…Believing that only through faith in Jesus all of our sins are forgiven. Through faith in Jesus – we (the spirit man) becomes RIGHTEOUS

    3. Luke 13:3… Repenting from EVERYTHING that JESUS considers sin

  • John 8:12… Jesus said that He is the light of the world and whoever…

    1. Follows Jesus (first)

    2. Will never walk in darkness (will never walk in sin)

    3. But will have the light of life (will walk righteously)

  • As we walk in our spiritual journey - God brings many revelations into our lives. One powerful and necessary revelation that Jesus brings are the SIN in our lives. When God brings revelation of a certain sin in our life – our “job” is to…

    1. John 8:32…Firstly, believe that it is a sin. He does it for our own good. He does it not to condemn us. Sin is a barrier. Sin stops us from becoming the person we were meant to be. It is God’s desire to set us free! Truth always set us free. God calls sin – it is sin. God knows best. Whatever He calls sin – we got to know that He speaks the truth. Satan will do anything and everything to stop us from believing God’s truth. Don’t argue.

    2. Secondly, repent from that sin.

    3. Psalm 23:3… Thirdly, believe that God can and will help us overcome that sin. God does not just reveal our sin to us. He restores and He guides us! Jesus’ love, grace and mercy will carry us through. He sends the wisdom; the help and everything that we need to overcome the sin in our lives. At the end of the day – we glorify God knowing that He did it for us.

  • John 8:10-11 Jesus had the power to condemn the woman - yet He didn’t because He loved her – just like He loves ALL SINNERS! The woman did commit a serious sin. Did God take sin lightly and compromised His holy standards? Of course not! Jesus did what He did because He knew that He is going to be punished for her sins on the cross. Therefore He was able to give her the gift of no condemnation. From this story, we need to learn that…

    1. Firstly Jesus gives the gift of no condemnation. It is important for every child of God to embrace this gift – the gift of no condemnation.

    2. Secondly, Jesus tells us to go and leave our life of sin. In other words – go and stop living in sin.

  • Romans 8:1… Today, we have the gift of no condemnation because the Son of God was condemned for all your sins. God does not condemn us when we sin because He is faithful and just to what His Son has done. But we still find people saying, “Go and sin no more first, and then I won’t condemn you.” But God says, “I don’t condemn you. Go and sin no more.”

  • God gives us the gift of no condemnation, so that we will be able to not live in sin! Without the gift of no condemnation – no one can stop living in sin. What the Jesus did for the woman - He did the same with us today. He does not condemn us and is calling us to NOT LIVE IN SIN.

  • The difference…

    1. One who lives in sin – is one whom God has revealed to him a certain sin YET he ignores and rejects God’s revelation. And continue to believe that it is not a sin.

    2. One who falls into sin – is one who embraces God’s revelation and rejects the sin. YET because of various reasons e.g. spiritual immaturity – he falls into sin now and then.
